occasionally my roommate listens to a genre of music i call "kernel panic" as in you've had a kernel panic and now the audio codec is sampling whatever was in the buffer

dunno, probably just no one cares enough to make kernel panics nice i guess you could just use panic autoreboot
-
Honestly answering that question is enough for me to want to write an audio driver.

assuming you'd be implementing HDA, let me know when you get to the point where you tear your hair out.

ah yes, an interface designed by Intel,
-
well, to be fair, I think AC97 is, by most measures, worse

i've only seen the USB Video Class documentation and uh if my employer told me to implement UVC I'd just resign.
-
on Haiku, nobody has even bothered to implement support for isochronous USB transfers for most stacks, because USB Audio and Video are basically all that uses them, and nobody's really cared about that so far
-
i was thinking about using isochronous transfers in my logic analyzer. problem is, with iso you're limited to a significantly smaller slice of USB bandwidth than with bulk

Why would it do that? That's additional complexity for absolutely no reason. Also the *DMA* isn't looping at all. It plays out of a ringbuffer. DMA into it is linear, it's just if you *don't* DMA anything into it in time it plays whatever was already there.
