In other words, price the technology at $1B. For the "right" tech, I'm sure they'd find a buyer.

Well theoretically you could do sliding-scale and make sure you're confident enough that the buyer isn't willing to part with that much money permanently, but yeah it was more a joke. Also hard (i.e. impossible) to enforce that they don't keep it after deposit is returned.
