That a significant chunk of the internet freedom/privacy/human rights movement is passionately championing regulation of the internet as a main strategy against fake news and harassment is, frankly, terrifying.

I see that as all the more reason to vocally distinguish the two rather than blindly or disingenuously pushing libertarian ideals that just benefit corporations.

We can both demand a continued open internet and demand that billion-$-scale companies be accountable for the toxic waste they spew.

So much of the problem with Facebook is not that they're failing to ban disinformation-campaign accounts but that their models for selecting what to show ppl actively incentivize that kind of behavior, and their pervasive tracking & privacy invasion facilitate its success.
