The one time I tried to make a visual novel was called "Reverse Tarot". Your only input was at the start of each in-game "day" you would decide the contents of the protagonist's daily tarot spread. The prophesy would then self-fulfill, events would follow the cards' predictions
It's still exponentially exploding work to write if you do it by hand - that's why I don't see a good way without procedural generation. But yeah all-text makes that harder to pass off as natural I'd think.
