I've had a 3B on Kodi duty in the living room for… a long time. Several years. Rebuilt / most recently on 2018-04-22; looks like I first generated a device-specific SSH key for it on 2015-06-13. It's been pretty reliable! (Can't say the same about all MicroSD cards.)

OK, that's what I'm thinking of going with (3B+). BTW does Kodi work well with gamepads as primary input device?

I wish I could say, but I don't know offhand. I'll give my PS4 pad a try tonight via USB; not sure about Bluetooth, I've heard it's a hassle and I won't be getting home tonight until pretty late. I also have a Steam controller, never unboxed. Should I try that too?

oh, datum: I've had... two MicroSD cards die during the lifespan of the Pi3 so far. Seems the 3B+ comes configured out of the box[1] to be able to boot from USB. May be better to use an external drive and a USB adapter for reliability. [1]: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1294453&sid=7baf152e9557877ced70f95bc105f146#p1294453 …
