Even with addition of a new intrinsic (eew, why? stdlib function is just as good), removal of volatile would essentially force asm hacks for compatibility with a range of compiler versions.

Removing language features, unless they're useless and evil like gets(), doesn't actually help because old tools still exist. It just forces
#ifdef hell or hacks targeting least common denominator. -
Well, it's a good solution on D, now, it to be a good one on C or C++, after the boat has sailed.... doubtful.
