Yeah, I do @musllibc, FOSS & infosec stuff. But now is not the time for a mostly-/only-tech Twitter feed.

To be clear, I have a job that comes with great insurance, so I'm fine (or I will be after hitting the deductible which is well within my means), but… it's just… wrong.
I remember coming to the US fresh out of high school, unaware of all this, and needing a simple visit and lab test. Paid $200, went home, thought that was it.
I was lucky enough not to receive the increasingly aggressive letters asking for the remaining $600 until somehow (and arbitrarily, as they had no info on me) they decided I qualified for a charitable program and slashed it to $28.
I would totally have paid $600 on the first letter had I read it, and it would have meant one fewer conference, fewer opportunities. For less lucky people it would have been ruinous.
It's really non-obvious that you have to just not-pay for stuff that's bs (and especially when you didn't agree in advance on a fair amount) in this country.
