There is simply no way to enforce a tipsel algo. Let me know if you know of any. In any DLT, if an attacker controls the majority of the hashpower, it gets dangerous. No magic here. The coo will be active until global hashrate is large enough to be hard to attack.
There is absolutely no reason to spend effort "studying iota" beyond the bare minimum needed to realize it's a scam. OTOH studying social science of cult behavior around iota may be worthwhile.

agreed. the due diligence i was implying is learning about limitations of distributed systems, enough to call bullshit on, not studying it per se. fwiw i did think this thread ended up being a nice overview of that subject =)
