Odd business fact: Many of our smaller customers prefer to mail us checks rather than do wire transfers for payments.
Since the money comes in big yearly payments I'm fine with it, it's just an interesting preference.

Do they actually write and mail paper checks themselves rather than using their bank's electronic bill-pay (essentially a free, mailed-by-bank cashier's check)?

Because in modern banking system your account number, printed on every check, serves as authentication (mechanical, not legal) to make arbitrary withdrawals (ACH).

If you're ok with that risk, I'm not judging, but I'm surprised that more ppl don't use convenient mitigating alternatives.
