Observation: In some instances, “Blockchain” doesn’t mean actually literal “proof-of-work blockchain” at all, it’s the popularization of related ideas that don’t have large public understanding. Merkel trees, hashing, consensus, database replication, public key crypto, etc.

That's why I said roughly/tweet-sized. What actually constitutes a "consensus protocol" in a meaningful sense takes a lot more to describe.
