A friend told me last night that her boyfriend, an Egyptian citizen doing medical research, called out his lab's PI b/c the PI was stealing his work w/o crediting him--and then the PI called ICE on him. Twice. And the FBI. PI also didn't do paperwork for his visa.

Are there no criminal charges that can be brought against someone doing this? This sounds like the sort of behavior you expect in labor trafficking; and blacklisting is not the proper remedy for labor trafficking; jail is.

I just talked to the friend who originally told me about this situation. Apparently further action is undesirable b/c of negative repercussions in Egypt. He has the agency to speak publicly on his own when he feels safe enough & empowered to do so.
