      Even 100 iPhones is still just one bigass box or a single rack of reasonable ones. And modern Google doesn't seem to even index 1% of content, but happily indexes loads of SEO spam.

      SEO spam is largely Google's fault. It goes back to a conscious choice to refuse to moderate, insistence on trusting that a universal scoring algorithm could work against active attackers.

      Manual human intervention was yahoo's core business. Google bet that wouldn't scale. You're saying Google should do what FBI can't.

      It doesn't scale, and that's why you automate as much as you can, to minimize the need for human action. But ruling out human action for ideological reasons or hubris over your algorithms is a recipe for the shit we're in now.

      One important note re: scaling of SEO abuse prevention. It's never O(# sites on the net). It's O(# profitable search phrases).
