It sounds like chat platforms could maintain & ship a list of "signatures" for dangerous trending hoaxes/misinformation with links to real source & match it client-side without compromising e2e.

Not sure how they’d scrub content for that and still maintain e2e. The latter should prevent the possibility of the former which is usually the point.

Exactly the way I said: by shipping the signatures to the client and having the client warn you about wetware viruses.
