The people at Ingenico who decided you can’t insert your chip-card until the green light goes on will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.
The cost of handling cash, especially in the absence of cards and offering cash-back as a way to unload cash, is waaaaay higher than 2-3%. Armored cars aren't cheap.

With cash you're paying only for the profit, with credit card you're paying for the income. Still might be cheaper, but very different. Here small business prefers cash, even when using receipt.

I'd assumed until recently that contactless payments were ubiquitous most places. I understand the payment card providers don't have as much influence over a presumably more diverse/scattered POS terminal ecosystem in the US, but... I still don't get it
