Screw LaTeX. It shouldn't take me 3 hours to figure out how to change the color of a section heading, and googling reporting me 10 different ways using 10 different modules, none working (of course).

If you know another typesetting software that's scriptable, can be templated and isn't weasyprint, phantomjs, wkhtmltopdf, word or libreoffice I'll take it. Right now I consider hiring a latex expert to make the whole thing work.

LaTeX is awful but everything else is worse. :-P
-
Overall that is. Lots of individual details about LaTeX are actively worse than everything else, though. Especially the whole "global optimization" aspect of it and the dreaded "overfull hbox" hell.
-
Totally. It suffers from its non-holistic approach ("there's a module for that... or 10") even for simple tasks that imo should be built-in, and its compiler really sucks. However if you're a Latex guru I'm sure it's the best tool ever.

I just tested the free version of Prince. It works well! And CSS is 100x easier than Latex. But the license costs are way too high :(
