If Michael Gove - who purports to help lead the nation - thinks the report of the privileges committee is wrong, why doesn't he vote against? Abstention and not voting are, in this context, acts of abdication.

Why on earth is Shaun Bailey’s peerage going ahead?

In reaction to this new partygate video, Michael Gove says “I want to apologise to everyone who will think these people are flouting the rules designed to protect us all.”
But he won’t be drawn on whether two of the people involved deserve honours.

I think it’s a bit odd that the Pinc List never includes the leader of the WLGA. Sometimes it feels councillors get ignored but they’re invariably at the really tough end of politics and Andrew has always been out proud and dedicated.

I am now convinced that the time has come for Government to step in and appoint truly independent experts to consider this issue of concussion and CTE in sport and legislate according to the expert panel's recommendations. Safety and brain health before vested interest.

The mortgage crunch has got bigger - we’re now on track for repayments to rise by £15.8bn (up from £12bn a few weeks ago)
- 60% of that pain is ahead not behind us
- typical remortgager in 2024 (election year…) will see a £2,900 hit resolutionfoundation.org/publications/t

NEW BLOG: Do people really care about lying to parliament? Yes, they do
Following the report on Boris Johnson, draws on Unit research to argue the public wants a robust standards system, that punishes lying to parliament.

7 years ago today, on 16 June 2016, Jo Cox MP was tragically murdered in her constituency of Batley and Spen while on her way to meet constituents.
Jo’s murder was a personal tragedy for all those who knew and loved her.

71% agree with the Committee that Johnson lied to Parliament, with just 15% disagreeing.
And 55% of voters believe Johnson should no longer participate in public life, compared to just 27% who say he should.

Without question, there is nothing worse than despicable human flotsam like Bryant shamelessly grandstanding. He typifies everything that is wrong with modern politics with his childish need to not just defeat a political opponent but destroy them and then dance on their grave.

Just listening to talking about those Conservative MPs (possibly a majority) who may not even turn up to vote on the privileges committee report because they are "frit". Now that really would be a roll of shame

MPs thinking of absenting themselves on Monday for the vote on Johnson should bear in mind that polls repeatedly show the public believe Johnson lied, that they want MPs to tell the truth and they want ministers who lie to be punished. All by very large majorities.

His partygate speech in HOC was probably the best and most moving speech I have ever heard. It led to rattled Johnson using the far right Savile smear. You should listen to Starmer more often.

I’m not often inspired by but when the history of #BorisJohnson’s downfall is written I suspect his forensic probing at #PMQs will be shown to have exposed Johnson’s systematic lying.
So it’s hats off and respect to Sir #KeirStarmer

John Profumo was struck off from the privy council for having lied to parliament as a minister. He was no longer considered honourable so he couldn’t be right honourable either.
