      Yes, California WILL change under my leadership. I was a first grade teacher, a RSP, & SDC Special Education Teacher that had an Applied Behavior Analysis background. Teacher training is severely lacking & there’s never been accountability.

      The entire system is messed up. To receive funding, districts have to choose "researched based" curriculum with certain "buzz words"... we all know "research based" just means they paid someone to come to their same conclusions. It's time we make some noise to our local leaders!

      I agree. The saddest part is, researching reading curriculum angered me so much, it lead me down the "what else is controlled by the federal government?" rabbit hole.

      reading is about decoding and recoding the graphic symbols each society chooses to represent the sounds each society chooses to use a a sound based communication system, local speech, which varies from one community to another.

      💯 My son received the terrible "balanced literacy" for years. We changed to a school where they used the evidence-based instruction (a variant of structured literacy/Orton-Gillingham) and his reading and writing fluency scores went from 20s/30s percentile to 70s in one year.

      I taught at a Community Day School 1yr, the students copied letters/words from 11/12grade books for 6 hrs /day. Pathetic, they were tested on those notes, not able to refer to them.. mind you they couldn’t read the words they wrote. GFL was 2nd.
