No! count(expression) does NOT count where the expression is true, it counts when it's NOT NULL. count(type = 'dog'), count(type = 'cat'), count(type) all return the SAME number, at least on databases that aren't blatantly violating the spec.
"SQL is for a single product." ORLY? The SQL spec is a dog's breakfast at the best of times, but it remains something that most implementations try and approximate, at least most of the time.
