Hey kids! If you’re statically linking OpenSSL on FreeBSD, don’t forget to link in -lthr as otherwise it will crash and simply give you a hard time. This has been a public service announcement by those who sometimes use static linking.
So this is at least partly OpenSSL's fault; RAND_get_rand_method returns NULL if RUN_ONCE fails, but none of its callers actually check for a null return, they all just blindly dereference the pointer.

Is this with base OpenSSL or with ports' ? If ports' which one (1.0.2/1.1.1)?

Base OpenSSL. I was trying to keep complications to a minimum.
