We are close to having automated garbage trucks. Ingredients: - Self-driving cars are of course advancing https://www.wired.com/story/guide-self-driving-cars/ … - Robots are grasping the act of gripping https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-05093-1 … The poor gripping skills of the above driver may very well be soon replaced.

And while we're on the topic of trashy future talk: with Computer Vision advancing so rapidly, hopefully we can soon automate the sorting of recycling at a much more fine-grain level.

The problem is that it is a human still operating it:) wait until it is completely automated..

Who will go back just a little to restart the automata?

They should be using RAPIDS (and better models).

I get the sarcasm here.. but Nice idea.. instead of emptying bin .. pick up entire bin and replace.. can be automated by tech available today.. In case of spillage, if any, human driver assists..Any VC want to fund this.. lots of government contracts world over up for grabs..
-
How do you propose to transport several hundred full bins, as opposed to the compacted contents of several hundred bins? Very suboptimal solution.

This happened to my trash can once, except one of the workers got out and pulled it out of the truck. It smelled AWFUL after that
