Keeping it Sega with a new arrival. I'm guessing Amazon had some leftover stock to clear out, because it was pretty cheap. Fortunately, the DLC code hadn't expired, either. I now have all the way from 1 to 7, so I just need to find the time to play all these gigantic games.

So I'm working on a gaming archival site called interviewarchive.org. It'd primarily be a resource for old magazine interviews -- each one is scanned and transcribed, so contents are verifiable and also easily Googlable. Presently have 1500+ scanned, 300 transcribed.

This one looks to have had a hard life, but luckily carts are tough. It's not amazing, but it was one of the better X-Men games at the time. The large character graphics work well in solo play, but make things a bit cramped in co-op.

Here's a manual because the cartridge is boring looking and I don't have the box. It's a pretty basic horizontal shooter, unsurprisingly considering the vintage, but it does support the Speech Synthesizer peripheral. That was pretty mind-blowing in the early '80s.

Here's the first of several games based on Kinnikuman made by the legendary AKI Corporation, most of which stayed in Japan. It's a bit simplified compared to their other wrestling games, but still pretty fun, especially in multiplayer. Create-a-wrestler is sadly limited, though.

The box has seen better days, but here's my original copy of Doom II. I trust I don't have to explain this one to anyone? I could never line up my shot at the Icon of Sin properly, so I'd always have to use the no clipping cheat to attack John Romero's head directly to beat it.

Here's my only European import. We only got the Xbox port here in the US, but fortunately my local Software Etc. started stocking imports when domestic releases began to dry up. It's possible to carry over a US save, but you need to hex edit the save's region code on a PC.

Yes, I remember playing Dig Dug at a local arcade in the '80s.
Here's a game overseen by the producer of SFII, and as a result the DBZ game that plays most like Street Fighter. Personally, I was quite happy with that, but everyone else I knew wanted to play Budokai instead.

Here's something that I guess qualifies as an AR game. You place physical cards on a cloth mat to play the game on your TV. It's honestly pretty fiddly, and really hard to parse on SDTV, which was all I had at the time. Good thing I grabbed it cheap to get the PlayStation Eye.

There's a wardrobe change in this, too, but not quite the same way. Joe's powers are switched up for this portable adventure to take advantage of the unique features of the DS, while still largely playing like the console entries.

Here's another "digital comic", basically an adventure game. There's no way to lose, so aside from a maze at the end, you can just try every option until you find the right one. I surprised myself by getting the gist of the plot, though I think knowing the series was a big help.

Here's the second time Nintendo copied Breakout, following their Block Kuzushi console from the '70s. It doesn't mix up the formula as much as Arkanoid, but it does have Mario hopping in to pilot the paddle, and features bonus stages with blocks in Mario-themed shapes.

Posted the last one previously, so let's circle around to the first. More arcadey than the X-Wing flight sims on PC, this is probably one of the best looking games on N64. The unlockable Naboo starfighter was so secret, it was even hidden from most of the dev team until release.

This literally just arrived. I'm surprised it came on a Sunday, but anyone that watched our channel probably isn't surprised that I bought it. I didn't end up spending much time with the demo, but by then I'd already pre-ordered, and I just wanted to confirm it played well.

Wrath of Denethenor, a replacement for the one that got away

In 1986, Sierra's roleplaying void, left by the departure of Richard Garriott, would finally be filled, when Sierra picked up Christopher Crim's extensive and well-crafted Wrath of Denethenor.

Here's a fighting game with an unusual format. Battles take place in a cubic forcefield in midair with full 3D movement. Projectiles are emphasized. Surprisingly, Hironobu Kageyama was left in; usually we get an instrumental if the Japanese opening song isn't completely replaced.

This one is really more of a utility than a game. I picked it up cheap to transfer music from my PC for use with games that support custom soundtracks, and I'm not sure I ever even tried the other features. I do have the mic and controller adapter, but I store them separately.
