“A California activist recently sneaked into a slaughterhouse at night and installed spy cams inside a gas chamber to record this supposedly humane process,” writes . Look at the video, and you understand the true cost of pork.

I'm so grateful for and for telling the truth about - "Grandin told me that the new gas chamber videos show unacceptable suffering — and that this suffering is probably typical of what goes on in the gas chambers."

The pork industry has argued that its gas chambers for hogs are "animal friendly" and "painless." Then an activist sneaked into a meat plant and at risk to herself installed spy cams in the gas chamber--and the videos are devastating. My column with video: nytimes.com/2023/02/04/opi

The only way to truly minimize the risk of future zoonotic pandemics is to end mass-scale animal agriculture, which is the primary driver of both land-use change (for feed and grazing) and the creation of viral breeding grounds (through intensification).

When told us carbon dioxide was "painless", they knew they were lying, because even industry researchers were prevented from "looking inside the box." #SmithfieldGasChambers #STOPGasChambers

The gas chambers used in US slaughterhouses are promised to be "painless" and "stress-free" for animals. But activists from @dxeverywhere have revealed the first hidden-camera footage of what those chambers are really like: wired.com/story/dex-pig-

Mass killing by forcing an individual to go into heatstroke ("VSD" and "VSD Plus") is not humane. I support veterinarians and their oath to protect animal health and welfare.

I really can't justify eating pigs anymore

Pigs in the US are increasingly slaughtered with CO2 gas chamber systems that can asphyxiate as many as 1,600 pigs an hour. The companies that sell and use them claim they're "stress-free" or "painless" for animals. Hidden spy cams reveal a darker reality. wired.com/story/dex-pig-

Today's coverage of @SmithfieldFood's gas chambers reveals why these machines are so secret. Even inspectors and industry experts, like , are prevented from looking inside. Why? Because gas chambers conceal animal cruelty.

I agree with the legal and veterinary experts in this article that a system that routinely leaves pigs kicking and screaming while they suffocate does not comply with federal humane slaughter law. This footage would shock the conscience of any decent person.

This investigation is huge — suggesting that a method used to stun pigs before slaughter, CO2 gassing, which is widely considered humane by animal welfare scientists, isn't humane at all. 10 vets argue these findings violate the Humane Slaughter Act wired.com/story/dex-pig-

I support peaceful protest, the changing of systems that cause animal suffering, social justice harms and devastating damage to our environment. I optimistically embrace a future that is safer for all inhabitants of this precious earth. 🪧🐖🐣🐔🌱🌎

Four bats died in ~two years at Colorado State, which received a $6.7 million grant from the NIH last year. The USDA fined them: $5,800. Within a month, 20 more bats had died. Full story on how penalties are merely “a cost of doing business” here:

“Although video footage of the stolen pigs showed biohazards like animal carcasses and blood pools, Smithfield Farms, offered assurances in its response that the animals in the company’s care are safe and healthy.” #SmithfieldTrial
