I've always wondered why mice that exp social stress go into interaction zone. In California mice there's no strain component, but males affected less than females. After 9 years, still don't have a good explanation.

This is parallel to the issue I’ve always had with “resiliency” in the open field test. I’m not a stress expert, but it seems completely backwards to me that a normal, “healthy” mouse would want to spend time in the middle of an open field.

I've wondered this about CSD for a while. I considered this a benefit of our vole model, and similar approaches using California mice or hamsters, where a conspecific defeats the subject. It's satisfying to see my curiosity has some ground. I'll be keeping an eye on this work.
