Why keep React state “low” (as local as possible)? 1. Performance (less renders) 2. Simplicity (less prop passing) 3. Safety (less access = less risk) - Honors the Principle of Least Privilegehttps://twitter.com/prashant_andani/status/1223117265274429441 …

Irony: Corporations are using security scanner software that's so oppressive it drives people to quietly use their personal laptops. The result? No security scans, annoyed workers, and foreign hardware in the office. Oppressive security reduces security. People work around it.

I've been doing some CSS inspecting of some pretty looking sites, focusing on content width. Genuinely surprised nobody seems to use the char unit, e.g. `max-width: 80ch`? Instead everybody seems to use pixels/%. Why? Isn't the normal advise to aim for 50-80 chars per line?pic.twitter.com/b2UKrfKWeq

Puppeteer v2.1.0 is out!
Chromium 80
puppeteer.launch({product: 'firefox'})
Puppeteer can now talk to a real, unpatched Firefox binary. You no longer need to install puppeteer-firefox separately!

CSS pro tip
If you want to select SVG <img> elements, use this CSS.
Super handy as SVG <img> won’t fill the width if they’ve just got `max-width: 100%` on them.

Tip: Intentionally train your brain to listen to audiobooks/podcasts at a higher speed. I've been working on this for the last 5 years and I'm at 3x (which is as high as most players go). Our brains are capable of amazing things. They just need exercise!

Pro tip: If something on your critical path is slow, don't waste time trying to speed it up—just avoid it as long as possible. For example, if building UIs is slow, stop building UIs and focus on drawing lots of pictures. Problem solved.

How Web Standards Work 1. design a flawed API (it's fine! APIs are hard) 2. ship it in the most-used browser, despite objections 3. get cross-browser working group to fix the API 4. oops, too late, that would break the webpic.twitter.com/IuU6Xxzilv
