I’ve been haunted by the loss of 6 children who died in our care, and the conditions I saw first-hand at the border. The humanitarian crisis should deeply concern all Americans, but as a nurse I was especially troubled by the medical conditions.

When any human being enters into U.S. custody, both our laws and our moral duty require that we provide safe and sanitary conditions, especially to children and the most vulnerable among them.
