Yes! But. Need to protect safety-net hospitals that can’t afford the infrastructure to contract w Big Insurance, since they mostly see Medicaid and uninsured patients. Can fix surprise billing without breaking the safety net.

I cut my finger deep. Needed stitches. Called my dad to drive me to ER. He asked about the $ of my deductible. He taped my finger, gave me some xtylenol and saved me hundreds. He didn’t want me to waste my money.

I texted my Canadian friend and asked what she would@have done. She said “duh, go to the doctor”! No bills coming in the mail. Just heal and get well.
