You can obligate yourself for crippling amounts of student loan debt between the ages of 18 & 21 (unlike other debt it survives bankruptcy), BUT with the passage of the omnibus bill last week, it’s illegal to sell cigarettes to adults between the ages of 18 & 21. What the hell?

Genuine question: if we stopped backing loans, and loans were only given to people that had a prospect to pay them, or could even only outright pay, would that lead to the job market realigning to a place where everyone doesn't need at least a BA for a simple entry level job?
