Regardless of how the elections turn out: On Jan 3, 2019 over half (218+) of the US House will have served 6 years or less. This will be a great chance to test the theory that “short tenures = better congresspeople = better Congress.”

I’m not sure that’s the case. Until they know their time is limited they will always be trying to protect their jobs. Which was always intended to be a public service, not a career.

One reason for so many new vacancies is retirements. Those retiring knew well in advance that it was their last term. Did retiring members perform better in their last term? If so, I couldn’t see it... one yr we called repubs voting for debt limit increase the retirement caucus!

There’s a big difference between someone going into Congress knowing there is a definite time limit and a career politician doing exactly what his party wants before leaving office.

You'll never get a Congress that truly represents the people until you get rid of Lobbyists. Many, if not most, congressmen become lobbyists as soon as they leave office. Ergo, they know the ropes & who to pressure. Money is the corrupting force in Congress, not time in office.

Not really a true test b/c the leaders that have been there for decades corrupt & coerce the new Reps into voting the way the leaders want. If you do not play along, you don't obtain important committee positions nor receive funding for your campaign.

Isn't there a congressman from Kentucky who tells us the real power is concentrated with leadership? Leader tenure is on average very long.

Need to change the way we vote. Increase representation and use Ranked Choice Voting. Maybe that won't even work, as power doesn't just corrupt, it attracts the already corrupted.

From someone claiming they’re from MIT I’d hope you know what a hypothesis is. Instead of, whatever this is, how about this: in order to be good Congress person you first have believe in government—and be willing to govern. You lack both. #PinkSlipMassie
