Taking self-term-limiting pledges, in the absence of actual term limits, is the surest way to end up with a swamp full of swamp creatures. Occasionally you get a swamp creatures who promise to self-term-limit in their elections.... they just break their pledges. #itsagimmick

Agreed, but actions speak louder for some, and co-sponsoring a bill about term limits without limiting your own term is a sticky spot. You leave, then nothing changes, you stay, you look like a hypocrite.

That’s the point of my original tweet... self imposed term limit pledges by candidates are a gimmick at best, and counterproductive at worst, for those constituents who really want term limits.

All the supporters of term limits would be out of office in 4-10 years. How would momentum ever build to actually pass term limits? However, a part of me that loves freedom doesn’t want the Government telling me who can’t be my representative (Executive branch is different).

That's a very good point.

@SenFrankNiceley has a plan for countermanding the 17th. Each party controls its own primary. The method of selecting primary candidates already varies by state and by party. Let the members of the State legislatures of each party choose their US Senate primary candidate.

Here’s the problem with that. 82% of Americans support a constitutional amendment to limit congressional terms....if you can’t get this passed no other meaningful and lasting reform legislation can get passed. So get it done or zip it with the muh liberty pipe dreams.

There are zero conservatives in the house( I consider you a libertarian). Had The Pences and Flakes and shadeggs been really self term limited ( and left before they went full socialist)we would have all been better off. There is no one worth keeping
