I owe $60k in college debt. I will be paying until I'm 85 unless something is done. Lifetime slavery is alive and well in the US.
-
I will be paying for my student loans from the grave. I am figuring about 20 years after I die. Higher education = indentured servant.

Student loans are a debt trap. If you become chronically ill as I did in my 30s they garnish wages and social security. You cannot buy medication then!

Once in default, you cannot even get account info. You receive no statements at all! They just take your money because they can and u have no relief. You get an answering machine when you call them and they do not call back!

How about stopping Betsy DeVoss from stripping away consumer protections from students and people struggling to repay student loans. Department of Ed should not be in bed with collection companies so they can screw people for more money!!!

Agreed. We also need to combat the ever-increasing notion that the primary or only value of a college education is gaining employment. The primary value is learning to think critically and expanding one’s knowledge base. Those skills make good citizens.

You are SO right! College is far more than a vocational school (not that there’s anything wrong with vocational schools).

Don't forget those of us who are already drowning with student loan debt that grows instead of shrinking because of predatory high interest rates. Can you help us, too, Rep. Swallwell?
