Eric- its way worse than that. The Fed loans money to the banks 400 - 500 basis points LOWER than students w existing debt, which currently stands at about 6.75%. Since this debt not dischargeable, the interest rate could be lowered a few points.

Incentivizing citizens to invest in education is not only good policy, it’s good economics. If you’re so smart, explain why carried interest is taxed at a lower rate than regular income and corporate debt is 100% tax deductible.
