“I only feel safe twice a day. When I wake up in my home. And when I return to it after work.” (THREAD) a black man in my district told me this yesterday. He went on to say, “I work hard to buy a nice car. But my neighbors look at me like I stole it. I drive to work on (1/3)

the freeway and local cops routinely pull behind me to run my plates. All I want to come out of this (Floyd) is to feel safe in more places than just my home.” The man who shared that with me is a senior member of a major Bay Area police agency. For officers in America, (2/3)

Institutional racism, and the feeling of being seen as “dangerous and guilty” is not limited to only the people you interact with on the streets. This is how your black brothers in arms feel. Would go a long way if you asked them. #BlackLivesMatter (3/3)

You should watch Cory Booker's appearance on Colbert from last night (6/4/2020) He is amazing, but tells a similar story. 😢

The police are mocking us. Their brazen acts of brutality say "protest all you want, we are in control and there's nothing you can do about it." Departments across the country have been infiltrated by white supremacists and anti-government militia men. They are dangerous.

Sir, That is so only if you are not Breonna Taylor and many blacks in this country in many states. Breonna was not safe from police brutality even in her own bed, behind closed doors.

Sir, this racism runs so deep, it is ingrained by our our parents, grandparents, our great grandparents. So even if we know that black people (all POC) are equal & deserving of respect, it creeps in, we have been conditioned and THAT is what we need to work on as a society. #BLM

Not only do we need to address the institutional racism, but also the institutional and legislated PRIVILEGES of the non-marginalized that racism feeds off of.

Rev. Sharpton gave an amazing eulogy yesterday. Knees need to be removed from African American necks. I hadn’t thought of it that way but it’s true and we all need to fight for this.
