“I only feel safe twice a day. When I wake up in my home. And when I return to it after work.” (THREAD) a black man in my district told me this yesterday. He went on to say, “I work hard to buy a nice car. But my neighbors look at me like I stole it. I drive to work on (1/3)

Institutional racism, and the feeling of being seen as “dangerous and guilty” is not limited to only the people you interact with on the streets. This is how your black brothers in arms feel. Would go a long way if you asked them.

The random running of plates is an invasive violation. I've been in the car with a friend of mine when a cop pulled in behind her, likely ran her plates, and tried to intimidate her into doing something he could pull her over for.

I've driven her car in the same neighborhood in a far more aggressive manner - in front of cops - and never had them look twice. Maybe a law allowing people to request how often their plates have been run and why would help with accountability and transparency.

We have to wrap our heads around they are not even safe in their own homes!! Ask Breonna Taylor...oh wait Imagine living your whole life that way, I can't..I FINALLY hear and see and fully ashamed of who we (white privilege) became..WE NEED CHANGE
-
It is embarrassing, disheartening, dreadfully sad and frustrating that it took this long to do anything about it on a major scale...and that is what needs to happen NOW...SYSTEMIC CHANGE ON A MAJOR SCALE! No more incremental changes! These are HUMAN BEINGS!! This is ridiculous!

For years, I thought police just did that to everybody. I also thought it was normal for bullets to miss me by inches as I walked home from school and that "new" 2nd hand clothing was exciting. Being an adult shouldn't mean understanding stuff like this isn't normal.

If a white driver is stopped by the police, there’s 1 police car. If black driver is stopped, there’s 2 or 3 cars. Happens every time.
