I’ve heard that my donation of blood to The Red Cross is packaged & then resold to hospitals who then charge exorbitant prices for it. Is this true? How much money does The Red Cross make off free blood donations?

We do not charge for the blood itself, the Red Cross, like all blood collectors in the U.S., operates on a cost recovery basis, meaning we only recover the costs associated with the screening of potential donors, the collection of blood by trained staff, testing and distribution.

I bet there are hundreds of thousands of donors like me. We have no idea if we have had mild cases of the virus over a month ago. They have to come up with an accurate antibody test to supply the needed plasma.
