The difference is that actively serving salmonella is causing immediate harm, whereas a person merely owning a weapon is not.

I agree completely with the premise. I don't know is if it's legally/constitutionally possible to confiscate, or if there's enough support for it yet (I mean among the people, which polls I've seen say 50/50 on this specific issue). But if it can be done, it should be.
