You cannot even define an "assault" weapon that isn't already banned. Handguns are used more often in criminal activity. All weapons except for highly custom long-range rifles are semi-auto. I could go on - but you just want somebody to DO SOMETHING!!
In Feb, @JosephSakran described the severity of wounds from assault weapons & explained why these guns are so much more dangerous than others. 6 months later and @senatemajldr has done NOTHING. I was a medic (USAF 1971) and we were ordered to Viet Nam (later cancelled). During our training they demo'd a AK-47 vs M-16 &the wounds inflicted. The damage an AR type weapon can cause is unbelievable. It can shatter bone, missing it by an inch. They're not necessary.

Any center fire rifle can do what an AR can do. The 5.56mm round is WEAK compared to just about any other rifle round.
