My father took me to the naturalization of a family friend, a soldier who had served w/ him. It made a strong impression on me. It instilled a sense of patriotism - not just mindless, flag-waving jingoism, but deep pride in a country that welcomed people from around the globe.

Just wonderful and congratulations and welcome fellow citizens. I remember my ceremony in Los Angeles in 2003 as if it were yesterday. The excitement and being so proud.

The USCIS repeatedly stresses the privilege and duty of every citizen to vote. There are registration booths set up right outside the ceremony hall. I ended up registering at the DMV a month later though and voted for the first time in the 2018 mid-terms!
