Today, @HouseJudiciary advanced #HR3239, legislation that will *finally* require humanitarian standards be implemented for people in custody at our Southern border.
Every single human deserves to be treated with dignity – but under the Trump Administration’s cruel immigration agenda, mothers have had their children torn from their arms and kids have been put in cages. This needs to end. This isn’t the America we know.
We also need to ensure that the law enforcement officers at our border uphold American values. The recent revelation of a secret Facebook group filled with current & former CBP agents making racist, vile remarks about immigrants and lawmakers is outrageous.
I have all the respect in the world for the men and women in law enforcement. My dad and brothers are cops and I was a prosecutor. I've worked with CBP agents and know the type of sacrifice wearing that badge requires.
That being said—I also know the standard of conduct that is expected from those very men and women. The private CBP Facebook page that was uncovered last week taints the good work that thousands of people in law enforcement do daily.
All law enforcement federal employee need to be held to the same standards as the active duty military when it comes to partisan activities.
Just as soon as McConnell puts it to a vote in the Senate right?
@RepSwalwell While I am overjoyed at the passage of this bill and 100% condemn the immigrant concentration camps, why has Congress been able to act so quickly on this issue while problems like healthcare, growing homelessness, and income inequality go entirely unaddressed?
That this, this being laws to enforce humanitarian care for HUMANS seeking safety at our borders, even needs to be addressed, is sickening. Thank YOU, DEMOCRATS.
