No one would benefit from what you’re proposing more than I would. I’ve got $100k in student debt, 2 kids, & commute between 2 expensive cities. But even living in the 12th wealthiest district in US, our pay is more than fair. And I didn’t go to Congress to get rich.https://twitter.com/yashar/status/1138510449698365441 …

    1. Every time I tweet about this I get ratio'd. It would be a good thing for our democracy to offer members of congress (who qualify) subsidized housing in Washington. If you want people to run for office who aren't wealthy and have families, this is a good way to encourage them.

That's great. Now why weren't you at the 9/11 heroes hearing today?

Was probably the same place other on this committee were. Other meetings like the one to enforce subpoenas. These folks were all mostly missing. https://judiciary.house.gov/subcommittees/constitution-and-civil-justice-116th-congress …

What about the hearing for the 9/11 responders. Why weren't you there?

I am a veteran who saved (Veap) money out of every check if I had known I could take out vast amounts of educational loans without paying them back.... I still wouldn't have done it because I was raised right.

Eric, in the olden days some Congress members used to share DC apts to keep down costs. Their families stayed back in the hometowns. Seems sensible to me.

I grew up in DC. There was a time when elected reps moved their families to DC for as long as they were in office. There was bi-partisan socializing on weekends. And more work got done. No modified work week to accommodate long weekends going home.

I dream of Laura Ingalls Wilder Little House America when people worried about fox eating their chicken. Those days like many are gone. Anerica is moving backwards, but in bad ways.

My wife and I live in DC. We have 2 kids attending public school, I have student loan debt, we own 1 car & 1 home, dont take lavish vaca’s, and scrape by. We want people of modest means to run for Congress and return to home districts. @yashar’s dorm/subsidy is a good proposal.

No one said you did, but the way the system is set up it keeps a vast portion of the population from even being able to consider a run at office.

Dorm rooms for congress I could be on board with that. Four to a bathroom with a little kitchenette would be perfect.
