    Rep. Eric Swalwell Retweeted Axios

It’s time for action on #studentdebt. & it’s not just a young person problem. Our challenge is too many in DC are disconnected from the issue, living lives of luxury w/ no idea of the quicksand the debt puts one in. I get it. I write the check every month. Let’s take this on.https://twitter.com/axios/status/1091863841665835008 …

    Rep. Eric Swalwell added,

Americans older than 60 are saddled by student loan debt worth a whopping $86 billion, a figure that rose 161% between 2010 and 2017 — the largest increase out of any age group, the WSJ reports. https://www.axios.com/student-loan-debt-crushes-senior-citizens-ad130a82-842f-45e1-8641-c1d125611083.html?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=organic …

Yeah I choose state school too. To become a teacher. Still cost me 60 grand. I wish we could borrow at the same rate wall street does from the govt

We're 56 and we - between the two of us - have 4 degrees and still owe 25k. We've paid steadily. The way the compound the interest is punitive.

When I became disabled, unable to work, my student debt was still close to 35k. It's nuts. I know several people in the same spot as you are. It feels like the debt will be there forever, almost impossible to pay off.

As a teacher, I’ve had to take out loans to gain more education to make any money (which doesn’t make that much of a difference). So many of us are saddled with student loans, we end up having to take second jobs to make ends meet.

How about not registering for school you cannot afford? 🤔 Sounds pretty simple. Believe it or not, a Harvard education isn’t a “right” no matter how many times a Democrat tries to tell you otherwise.

You even need a loan for state school!

Re. Debt criticizers- who then do you think our children would be educated by & where do the nurses come from to care for the sick & injured? These 2 professions alone take on enormous debt & most often come from lower middle income families w/ little to no resources.

To expand on that, nursing schools want teachers with doctorates to teach. I’m in my 40s and can not justify the debt to get a doctorate in order to teach at a lower salary as a college educator than I make being a nurse. Downstream effects of this are worse for the future. 😩
