A great way to hide your inability to contend with an argument is to laugh it off as “missing the point.” What a low IQ statement.https://twitter.com/RepSwalwell/status/1082020825098682368 …

My favorite part of the conservative outrage responses to this tweet is the “but the Berlin Wall was to keep people in” argument. Missing ENTIRELY that a wall is a wall no matter what side of it you are on. It’s medieval. It’s a symbol of “us and not us.” And that is not U.S.

No, I understand the “argument” — respectfully, I don’t agree with it. I think @BillKristol made a similar point last week. Whether it’s to keep someone in or out, it’s a wall. That’s the opposite symbol of the lady with the torch in New York Harbor.

but you do realize she's looking over an ocean, right? a natural border that keeps you save from invaders. China didn't have that, so they build a wall ( and is was very effective), just like every other country in history that wants to protect its citizens and values.

It was very effective? You should go back and reread that part of a history book.

I’m sorry, did I miss the part where statues and poems replaced immigration policies? Would’ve saved me a ton of time and money when my ex-wife immigrated LEGALLY.

Lady Liberty is guarding Ellis Island where millions of legal immigrants, including my grandparents, had to stay until they could prove they had a legal sponsor, a job, and place to live before they could leave Ellis Island. That's why they had dorms there...

And when my grandfather gained entrance, until he became a citizens, he had to present himself in person every 6 months to Immigration to prove that he had a job, a place to live, and...a sponsor. Wasn't too much for him and millions others. Why is that such a problem now?

Eric why did we even bother to build Ellis Island, making immigrants apply for approval and turning away the unfit and undeserving? Liberty raises her torch, but there still must be rules and controls.

There is rules, they're called asylum laws. How people are coming in the border is perfectly legal.

Hey #NukeySwalwell, Ellis Island is beside that Lady. You should look at that immigration history.

I respectfully disagree. The US has and always will encourage legal immigration. I do not think that lady liberty was welcoming illegal immigrants. That is the whole point.
