Lots of contract workers won't get paid at all. I don't know about y'all, but living/working in the DC metro area meant that I could not afford a 2-week hole in my pay.

Taxpayers will pick up the bill to retroactively pay furloughed federal workers, including the half sent home unable to work. What a colossal waste of money.

Agreed. Then there are those deemed “essential” who will be required to work without pay. So 1/2 the gvmt works on an IOU and the other 1/2 doesn’t work and still gets an IOU. It is a waste of money but assuredly far cheaper than a wall that won’t work and won’t reap benefits
