The President is required by law to release a National Drug Control Strategy in February of each year, but he missed that deadline in 2017 and again this year. Congress must make sure this does not happen again.
Congress authorized a funding increase of $3.2B for opioid addiction prevention and treatment. But we cannot just throw money at this problem without a strategy. It's the responsibility of @POTUS and executive branch agencies to articulate and coordinate a cohesive national plan.
Yesterday I introduced an amendment to H.R. 5925 that would hold the Trump administration accountable for repeatedly missing this deadline by requiring them to report directly to Congress if there is any further delay and explain why the strategy was not produced.
Governing is about making choices and decisions. This is a major health crisis. This is something the White House needs to pay attention to and be held accountable for.
