The #OVT ensures that the investigation & prosecution of deaths of American citizens overseas are a high priority within the #DOJ.

OVT is responsible for monitoring investigations and prosecutions relating to terrorist attacks against Americans abroad.

OVT also works with #FBI, United States Attorneys’ Offices, & other offices within #DOJ to safeguard rights of U.S. victims & their families

OVT remains critical in light of recent terror plots & attacks perpetrated by ISIS, Hamas, al-Qaeda, Jahbat al-Nusra, & other organizations

Last week, I arrived in #Istanbul 4 days after a suicide bombing occurred in Sultanahmet Square an area frequented by international tourists

I also traveled to #Beirut, the site of a double-suicide bombing in Nov. 2015 that killed two American citizens & a U.S. permanent resident

We must make every effort to ensure that U.S. victims of overseas terrorism and their families are afforded the justice they deserve.

Imperative we conduct meaningful oversight of DOJ’s victim assistance process to find additional ways to facilitate its important mission
