It also would have made it more difficult for people fleeing violence and persecution in their home countries to seek asylum in the U.S. – a tenet our country was founded upon and that U.S. immigration law guarantees.

H.R. 6136 was no “compromise” as the Republicans claimed – it was an attempt to cut down on legal immigration while addressing none of the real issues with our current immigration policy.
