Yesterday, nearly 200 of your constituents were part of a town hall organized by high school students. There was a wide range of views, including NRA members and libertarians. Where were you, @RepSmucker?

The exchanges occasionally got lively, but always respectful, and the high school students did an amazing job facilitating it. Five candidates or office holders showed up, but you did not, Congressman Smucker.

I wish I was paid to call your office, email you, and voice my opinion. You are sadly mistaken if you think we're "paid" to want to have a dialogue w you. That is a tired and false refrain of a party that is afraid to listen. See you in the voting booth.

If you have to take out a column in the local paper to say “no, I swear I’m communicating with you people,” you probably aren’t doing a very good job of it. The most acknowledgement I’ve ever received from you was being called a paid liberal activist.

I am giving up on emailing you questions, as your responses are always vague and don't address my specific question. So much for constituent contact!

Meet with us. You will see. I, for example, am not paid. I am an educator and mother of two small children who is concerned about health care, income inequality, and education. I'll be civil.

Your absence at the Lancaster town hall meeting was duly noted. Public safety is not a GOP agenda item. You can read about it in the Sunday LNP. Your opponents were present.

I’ve been a liberal activist for most of my adult life. Please tell me where to go to claim my paycheck.

If you want to talk to your constituents, how about a public town hall?

"I am not interested in giving a platform to paid political activists to disrupt a forum for constituents to engage in a thoughtful discussion." Not one of my neighbors that I speak with on a regular basis that wishes that you would participate in a town hall is a paid activist.
