Emergency declarations should not be taken lightly. President Trump has made a strong case that there’s a humanitarian crisis at our southern border – and I agree.

It’s Congress’ duty to ensure the President is acting within his constitutional authority to address that crisis. After research and consideration, I believe Trump is acting within his authority to take this action.

Emergency declarations do not allow the President to circumvent the Constitution. President Trump’s exercise of national emergency powers is limited. He is not creating a new law or allocating additional funding. He is re-appropriating money already set aside for other projects.

It will be important that Congress continues to monitor and review the president’s role in this process to ensure the actions taken are within constitutional and statutory authority.

I had to check to see if this was the parody Smucker account. Unfortunately not. Stop spreading Trump’s propaganda.

So from now on congress tells the executive branch how much money can be spent overall, and the executive branch spends it however they see fit. Do I have that right? The executive branch has complete power of the purse? Please clarify.

I cannot wait until President Ocasio-Cortez declares a national emergency and starts implementing the green New Deal. Somehow I’m guessing old Lloyd and the GOP won’t be quite so sympathetic.

It's wrong...you know it's wrong. There is no credible evidence to justify the spend or solution. As a businessman you know that too. He may have the right, but it's a blatant abuse of power.
