Protecting people with pre-existing conditions is not a Democratic or Republican issue, it is what people of all political backgrounds are demanding of us as their representatives. That is our mission, that is our mandate, and to ignore it is dereliction of duty. #HR986pic.twitter.com/08zxKoMPZx

Let’s be clear. EVERYONE HAS A PRE EXISTING CONDITION. DIAGNOSED OR NOT. STATISTICALLY SPEAKING NO ONE WILL ESCAPE THIS MORTAL COIL WITHOUT FINALLY ENCOUNTERING A CONDITION WHICH WILL NECESSITATE INSURANCE, NO ONE.

That is exactly why it is such an attractive target for the GOP and their corporate donors. BTW, thanks again Congresswoman Slotkin for not accepting corporate PAC donations!

Sooner or later most people will have preexisting conditions. I used to not have diabetes but now I do. Now I have a preexisting condition. All those years I paid health insurance & hardly used it. Now Republicans want to deny me health insurance.

Everything you said!! Very few of us are going to age and not have pre-existing conditions. I didn’t ask for the severe arthritis that runs in my family. I didn’t ask to have that arthritis ravage my body. We don’t ask for it, and we don’t invite it in. 🙏🏼🌺💙

Great speech! Thank you. And I am sorry for the loss of your mother.

Republicans have stopped listening to their constituents. Thank God Elissa, a fighter for the people, is now my Congressman.

I second that. Elissa’s predecessor ignored his constituents. Elissa, on the other hand, sets up local offices to help address the needs of all her constituents.

So inspiring! I too, lost my mother to ovarian cancer. She did not lose her insurance and kept all her appointments. She survived an extra 3 years after diagnosis and I know her care made all the difference. Thank you for protecting pre-existing conditions!

Buuuut...if we’re talking about Congress, it’s actually only the Democrats who passed Obamacare and continue to defend its protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
