Effective leadership on tough issues doesn’t come through coercion, it comes through influence. Both sides came together in support of a deal that funds billions in border security, including additional technology and physical barriers along the border.

Our democratic system is one of compromise, and I have deep concerns about the President’s decision to break with historical precedent and bypass that system, and wield a national emergency declaration as a tool to make good on a political promise.

The promise was Mexico would pay-not taxpayers. Waste of our tax dollars.

n 2005, two Democrat governors, Janet Napolitano (D-AZ) and Bill Richardson (D-NM) declared states of emergency at their borders due to surging illegal immigration, crime and violence the same issues President Trump is citing today.

Just to reiterate my position as your constituent: We do not promote "open" borders. We just are looking for 21st century solutions to current problems, such as you have articulated. I think Congress did the right thing. Trump didn't like it, so he is flouting the Constitution.

Congress has repeatedly granted the president the power to declare national emergencies since 1976.

The Brennan Center for Justice has identified 123 statutory powers that means authority already existing in the law approved by Congress that the president can exercise under an emergency declaration.

This power has been used nearly 60 times and by every president since Jimmy Carter, who declared two national emergencies. Reagan declared six. George H. W. Bush four. Clinton seventeen. George W. Bush twelve. Obama thirteen.

After 2 years of your inaction to protect our kids from the onslaught of drugs and violence will change things at the voting booth. What are you doing about Health Care, you know the major issue you ran on.

I do not agree with Emergency Declaration as well but our democracy has been threatened with FISA & Dept of Justice abuses too.

The promise was that Mexico would pay for his wall. He's already broken his promise. So why let him use military money to pay for a broken promise ?
