We have a housing crisis in San Diego and the federal government has done little to address the problem. Many San Diegans struggle to find affordable housing and are often forced to live far from work, or they can’t find housing near transit-served areas.
I introduced the bipartisan Build More Housing Near Transit Act to require applicants to @FTA_DOT New Starts —which funds commuter rail, light rail, and bus rapid transit—to evaluate the feasibility of affordable and market-rate housing near proposed projects.
Our bill will enable federal investment in transit to increase housing options for families across the country. Part of the problem is not in building housing near transit...its not having transit near EXISTING housing. If u create transit for someone as far as Alpine to get to work in Carlsbad/downtown/utc...u raise the cost of housing in Alpine but effectively lower it everywhere else.
